Jan. 2024 Update

Greetings, and Happy New Year! I wanted to take a few minutes to provide a short update as to what I have been doing this past month.

Firstly, I wrote a piece (published on Christmas Day) for TheaterMania about the theatrical history of Wonka to tie in with the release of the new film with Timothée Chalamet. I worked on the article for several months, interviewing people involved with stage versions of the story including Timothy Allen McDonald, book writer for Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the prominent songwriting duo who wrote the music and lyrics for the West End/Broadway version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I am very happy with how it turned out and would love for you to read it here.

Shortly before Christmas, I had the opportunity to be a guest on the podcast Documentary First to talk about my experience as an entertainment journalist. The podcast is hosted by documentarian Christian Taylor and animator/voice artist Jason Rugg. They are both wonderful people and really great at what they do. You can find the audio of the podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, or you can watch the video of the recording below.

Lastly, at the end of December I was offered a role as a TV intern for Paste Magazine! This means that I will be writing extensively about television there for the next few months at least. My first feature has already been published, focusing on Showtime’s Kidding which is one of my all-time favorite shows. You can check out that article at Paste.

I will continue to write here on Sharpe’s Scribblings, and will provide more updates in the future as new things occur.
