Blogging is Stupid

I hate the word “blog”.

For me, it evokes the image of a person (usually a man who also happens to be in the midst of a mid-life crisis), opening up his computer to share his “thoughts” with the world. Eagerly, he creates his WordPress or Blogspot domain and begins clanking away at his keyboard, looking for validation from those out in the abyss. I’m not sure where this image came from, but there you are.

Here’s the problem with this scenario: most of the time nobody cares. The web is rife with people sharing their unwanted thoughts with everybody else. You are not special, random man.

Yes, the irony of this is not lost on me, a man (though not yet middle-aged) who has just published a website and his first post.

However, I have no delusions of grandeur about myself or what I am doing here on “Sharpe’s Scribblings”. I don’t have a following of any size, great or small. I have a smallish body of writing under my name, but nothing that has made a significant difference in the world (if I am wrong about this, I would love to hear from you).

I have talked to some incredibly talented people in the entertainment industry and written about it. I have watched movies and attended the theatre and have written about that. None of this makes me uniquely qualified to create a website.

That being said, it has long been my intention to have one repository containing the things that I have written. And that is now my website and, by extension, “Sharpe’s Scribblings”. It is not a blog as much as it is an outlet where I can write about my media experiences that won’t be published elsewhere- reviews, anecdotes, and other assorted thoughts.

This place will primarily consist of my thoughts about entertainment but occasionally may include other aspects of my life. Those who know me personally are familiar with my background in acting/singing/, education, and religion. I may, occasionally, discuss those things too. As I begin to publish these posts, I will include tags so readers can find topics in which they are interested and avoid others entirely.

If you are reading this, welcome. I hope you enjoy my website.

Just please don’t tell anyone that I have a “blog”.
